About the Author
Patsy Danehy Catsos, M.S., R.D.N, L.D., is a nutritionist on a mission to reduce pain and improve quality of life for clients with digestive health issues, especially irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). The days of over-generalized advice for people with stomach problems are over. Advising everyone with IBS to "eat more fiber" and "avoid red meat, alcohol, and caffeine" just doesn't cut it anymore. Patsy doesn't believe in one-size-fits-all diets; she helps you discover the diet that works for you. Her trailblazing book, IBS-Free at Last! (Pond Cove Press, 2009) introduced U.S. health care providers and consumers to an exciting and effective dietary program for finding and eliminating food triggers for irritable bowel syndrome. In 2013, the second edition of her book was translated into Spanish. Patsy is the editor of the blog IBSfree.net, and an expert contributor to Sharecare.com, an interactive social Q/A platform created by Jeff Arnold and Dr. Mehmet Oz, in partnership with Harpo Studios, HSW International, Sony Pictures Television, and Discovery Communications. She has been consulted for expert comments in numerous publications, including WebMD, Today's Dietitian, SpryLiving.com, Bloomberg.com, Blisstree.com, EmpowHer.com, CatchingHealth.com, Clinical Nutrition Insight and Consumer Reports Shop Smart Magazine. Patsy provides continuing professional education to other dietitians on the delivery of the FODMAP elimination diet. Ms. Catsos earned a B.S. in Nutritional Science from Cornell University and an M.S. in Nutrition at Boston University. She completed her internship at Boston's Beth Israel Hospital. Ms. Catsos maintains a private practice in Portland, Maine. She is a professional member of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of American and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and she is a past-president of the Maine Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
